#3DLABPRINT BOWDEN DRIVER#
If the user has to learn 2 different extruders- different settings, different driver voltages, connector adapters, this suddenly gets a lot more complicated. Exactly matching extruders basic design makes assembly, troubleshooting, guides, adjustments, installs, parts, and technical support just that much easier. I believe I have an issue with my bowden extruders here (I think the tube bend radius is too narrow, i have more tube coming in and will be rebuilding this printer to re-orient the tubes) I also have a GeeeTech I3 that has been converted to use a bowden extruder and I am using the same settings. I just think for simplicity, a pair of matching feeder systems is better in this case.Īgain, just think of it like this. I will gladly help both solutions (QR remote or direct drive remote) with custom firmware, tips, guides, and tutorials. I think because the Bondtech gears are smaller diameter and the dual hobbed drive needs less pressure on the filament, it's more efficient at transferring motor torque and then can and will easily push a Bowden just as well as the direct drive side. The only difference is the second motor won't be moving on the extruder head. So the idea is retain the 2 stock motors, use the gear sets for direct drive version and thus both have the same basic characteristics. But sometimes, adapting something VS custom for the printer is not as nice.

What I'm saying is, yes, we can adapt anything and make it work. QR is a 5:1 ratio and completely different steps per mm, and also since it comes with it's own motor, the plugs are incorrect, the current at the driver needs a different adjustment and firmware or steps per mm needs specified in the gcode.

That said, logistically, using 2 different extruders here is harder to set up on the N series.

I'm asking Martin to try out a version of the current gear set we are using for the direct drive for a the Bowden rather than the QR.
